The Object Catalog panel is reachable from the menu or by clicking on the right button in the title and selecting the catalog entry.

This panel shows a list of deep-sky objects. The items marked with ‘●’ are currently above horizon, those marked with ‘○’ are below horizon, and those marked with ‘×’ are never visible. Selecting an object will display detailed information about that object.

You can search for a star by typing its name in the look up field. This will automatically remove all entries that do not match from the list. The search is case-insensitive but the punctuation characters have to match.

Selecting a star will show it in the Sky Map.

Selecting catalogs

Pressing the ‘Catalogs’ button opens the ‘Select Catalogs’ dialog. This dialog displays all the catalogs currently installed on your Palm. You can select the catalogs you want to appear in the list and in the Sky Map. You can also use this dialog box to delete a catalog.

It is no longer necessary to load the catalog into memory as the data base format has changed to allow quick direct access. Since the names are stored compressed in the database, scrolling the list takes some time. Also AstroInfo's Sky Map can now handle huge catalogs by searching only stars in the visible area.

Catalog Options

In the catalog section of the option dialog, you can choose whether the stars should be marked by the special symbols.

Currently it is not possible to omit stars from the list depending on whether they are visible. This may change in later releases.
